Hills, Knolls initiate high school bowling

Published in Neighbor News - December 10

Morris Hills and Morris Knolls became the first Iron Hills Conference teams to offer varsity bowling. The sister schools are competing in the Sussex County Interscholastic League but will not be eligible for team honors this season.
Morris Knolls experienced the thrill of a 5-2 victory over Hopatcong in its first-ever match on Monday, December 1 while Morris Hills dropped a 7-0 decision to Sparta, one of the preseason favorites to capture the league title.
The competition was the first utilizing the new scoring format adopted for Sussex County Interscholastic Bowling this season after three teams tied for the league title last year.
Morris Knolls followed up the Hopatcong match with a 5-2 victory over High Point and edged perennial league power Lenape Valley 4-3 on Thursday. In the win over the Patriots, Dan Siegelman opened with a spare and followed with 11 straight strikes to post a 290 in the opening game. His teammate Jim Pierson fired a 256 in the third game.
Morris Hills recorded its first varsity "W" on Wednesday, December 3 when the Scarlet Knights rolled to a 5-2 win over Newton. The Hills produced a balanced lineup topped for a 601 effort from Jack O’Shea on games of 190-224-187. His four teammates all surpassed the 500 plateau.
