LaForte's 1-hitter cages Tigers

J.P. LaForte tossed a one-hitter as Parsippany defeated Dover 7-1 in an Iron Hills Conference - Hills Division baseball game on Friday afternoon in Dover. LaForte whiffed three and issued four walks in gaining his first "W" of the season after suffering three setbacks. Justin Racz powered the attack, going 2 for 4 as he smashed a two-run homer in the first and added an RBI single in the second as the Red Hawks surged out to a 4-0 lead and ultimately led 7-0 after six innings. Racz went 2 for 4 the next day when the Red Hawks defeated West Morris 10-9 on Saturday in Long Valley. Racz relieved with one out in the bottom of the seventh and picked up a save as Dan DiCicco notched the win to improve to 3-2. LaForte and Vinny Marchese legged out two baggers as the Red Hawks batting order collected 11 hits.

2002 Red Hawks Preview

James Hallik Head Coach Head coach James Hallik welcomed 11 veterans to pre-season practice. J.P. LaForte collected 32 hits, batting .410 last season while posting a 3-1 record with a 1.30 ERA in eight starts in 2001. Catcher Matt Grasso batted .340 with 30 hits while knocking in 20 runs and took turns on the mound, posting a 4-2 record with an ERA of 2.70 while fanning 41 batters. Justin Racz batted .330 with 28 hits while Anthony Mele posted a .300 batting average. Dan Cicco went 1-1 on the mound, turning in a 1.86 ERA. Other players to watch include Dan Ahmad, Ricky Butyn, Mike Chuy, Greg Cleary, Jay English, Mike Fiocchi, Vinny Marchese, Peter Panteslis, Dan Russak, Steve Salemme, Peter Zaccehria and Justin Zanca
