Red Hawks Weekly Sports Roundup for Week Ending April 28, 2002 Rubino pitches, bats Red Hawks past Tigers By Dennis Wilson Compliments of Suburban Life

In a IHC - Hills softball game on Friday in Parsippany, Kristy Rubino went the distance in hurling the Red Hawks to a 5-1 win over Dover. Rubino, who singled in two runs in three official at bats, scattered a pair of singles and allowed a double, whiffed seven and walked none in upping her record to 5-2 while the Red Hawks' overall mark improved to 12-3. Danielle Hayner doubled in the first run of the game for the only extra base blow by a Red Hawk. Last Wednesday, the Red Hawks blanked Weequahic 10-0 in a game halted after five innings by the 10-run mercy rule as five pitchers combined on a non-hitter with Rubino picking up the win. Julie Gola doubled home two runs as the Red Hawks exploded to score 10 times in the top of the first.

James Hallik Head Coach Head coach James Hallik welcomed 11 veterans to pre-season practice. J.P. LaForte collected 32 hits, batting .410 last season while posting a 3-1 record with a 1.30 ERA in eight starts in 2001. Catcher Matt Grasso batted .340 with 30 hits while knocking in 20 runs and took turns on the mound, posting a 4-2 record with an ERA of 2.70 while fanning 41 batters. Justin Racz batted .330 with 28 hits while Anthony Mele posted a .300 batting average. Dan Cicco went 1-1 on the mound, turning in a 1.86 ERA. Other players to watch include Dan Ahmad, Ricky Butyn, Mike Chuy, Greg Cleary, Jay English, Mike Fiocchi, Vinny Marchese, Peter Panteslis, Dan Russak, Steve Salemme, Peter Zaccehria and Justin Zanca
